Thank you for visiting the Sweet Home Baptist Church website.

We would like to extend an invitation for you to visit our church.  There are many churches in the Albemarle area, and we are not going to try to convince you why ours is the best.  We will, however, try to briefly explain the basis for our church and our direction.

We believe in Holiness.  The Bible says in I Peter 1:16, “Be ye holy, for I am holy.”  Now we know that the nature of man rebels against this requirement therefore everyone falls under the condemnation of God because of their unrighteousness.  John 3:19-20 says, “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.”

We now understand that we are condemned to the place called Hell (that is what we deserve) but God has a way of holiness for us.

The Bible says in Isaiah 64:6 that all of our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; so we need someone else’s righteousness.  2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”  God made Jesus Christ his Son the One who took upon Himself every sin that had ever been and ever will be committed, including the nature of man to sin.

How do you obtain this righteousness?  Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”  Romans 10:9-10 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Once a person has been saved they begin to walk in the righteousness of God.  This is not to keep their salvation, but to develop it.  Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”  We do not do good works to be saved; we do good works because we are saved.

The goal of our church is for people to see the wickedness of sin and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ.  We then begin to teach and preach from the Bible how God intended our lives to be.  Each individual must, at the Holy Spirit’s leadership, take steps in their life where they turn away from the direction of this world and follow the wonderful plan that God has for them.  The greatest life lived is not found in a church that changes to its memberships desires or pleasures, but a church that changes to God’s desire and pleasure.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message from our church to you.  Please come be with us as we endeavor to follow God’s plan for our lives.
